Brown Sugar Tiger Boba

Taiwan

Dramatic tiger stripes of caramelized brown sugar dripping down the glass. Sweet, photogenic, iconic.

The Story

Brown sugar boba exploded on social media around 2017, with shops like Tiger Sugar creating the dramatic striped effect. The pearls are cooked in brown sugar syrup until deeply caramelized, then the syrup is drizzled dramatically down the cup before adding fresh milk. It's sweeter than classic boba—essentially a dessert drink—but the visual impact is undeniable.

Brewing Tips

The pearls must simmer in brown sugar syrup until deeply caramelized and almost burnt. Drizzle hot syrup down the inside of a cold cup, add pearls, then cold milk. Don't stir before the photo. The sweetness level is extreme; you've been warned.
