Genmaicha
Japan
Green tea with toasted rice—nutty, warming, and surprisingly comforting. The tea equivalent of a warm sweater.
The Story
Originally created to stretch precious tea leaves with inexpensive rice, genmaicha became beloved for its unique character. The toasted rice adds a wonderful nuttiness and reduces caffeine content. Some rice puffs pop during roasting, earning it the nickname 'popcorn tea.' What began as economy became tradition.

Brewing Tips
Genmaicha is forgiving—hotter water brings out more toasty notes. The rice doesn't resteep well, so the second cup will be lighter. Try it cold-brewed overnight for a refreshing summer drink.
