Gushu Sheng

Yunnan, China

From ancient tea trees, some centuries old. The depth and complexity that only old roots can produce.

The Story

Gushu means 'ancient tree'—tea from trees 100 years or older, sometimes centuries old. These trees have deep roots that access minerals young plants cannot reach, producing tea with remarkable depth, sweetness, and qi (the physical sensation tea can produce). Gushu sheng is increasingly rare and valuable as demand grows.

Brewing Tips

Gushu sheng is precious—treat it accordingly. Use slightly cooler water to preserve nuance. The number of steeps is remarkable; keep going until the leaves truly give out. Notice the physical sensations (qi) in addition to the taste.
